LAKE STEVENS CAMPUS LAUNCH
"One church two cities."
Multi-site required an adjustment to our entire system.
To recreate the exact standards and experience we've worked hard on for years at The Rock Church in another city required us to restructure the entire leadership team. First, we had to work on new titles like Campus Pastor, the person who oversees each experience in the new city. Then we had to develop each of our five core ministries: Worship Experience, Pastoral Care, Gifts of Administration, Generations, and Reach Teams. These five core ministries will be duplicated in each city. Each area of ministry required a leader and that leader works in direct contact with Campus Pastor. In addition, each ministry leader must work with the other ministry leaders of each campus. Example, the Generations leaders at Lake Stevens (Todd and Staci Scheffer) directly with the Generations leaders at Monroe (Travis Warren and Shanna Habich), and together they are supported by Generations director (Matt LaCoss).
This type of Matrix reporting assures 2 things. 1) Campus Pastor is leading campus ministry leaders in the goals/needs of specific campus/city. 2) The Rock Church remains integral to Connecting People to Life. Each Campus remains tied together by the vision, values, methods, theology and applications.
Campuses are for implementation, not creativity.
One time while traveling in Mexico I was tired of the food. I wanted a cheese burger, from home! Where did I go? I went to McDonalds. It might surprise you, but the food was pretty much like it was at home. Maybe a small variation, like the Ketchup, but nearly identical in every way.
This is the goal for multi-site for The Rock Church. We are endeavoring to build a church with multiple venues, sites and sizes, but adhere to the core values, vision and methods we've worked toward for 9 years. We do this be creating together, but implementing separately.
In real time here is how this looks. As one big team (every campus) we will seek God to build vision, shape goals, craft messages and determine direction for the church. For instance, our children's curriculum will be the same every week at every campus, but we will implement them with different people. The only component of implementation that will remian similar campus to campus is the Adult communicator. For the most part I will be the main communicator 35-40 weeks per year. On other weeks the Campus Pastor will have a series of messages and then guest speakers will make the rounds.
