Why Leaders Fail
Minister’s Fellowship International Regional Conference January 2007!
Opening Night:
Apostle Dick Iverson is like my spiritual grandpa. He has been in the ministry for 58 years full-time, 44 years in the same church and has reached tens of thousands. He knows something about leadership, life and longevity. His topic tonight is WHY LEADERS FAIL
The 3 G’s of failure for men who are in the ministry: Gold, Girls, and Glory.
The seeds of failure often take a long time to recognize.
WHY LEADERS FAIL: The seeds of Failure:
~ “Dick Iverson’s point”
My thoughts
~ “Undisciplined Lifestyle”
Take care of your appearance and health.
~ “Lack of desire to schedule time”
Plan your day, stick to your plan.
~ “No interest to improve management or administrative skills”
It takes more than vision.
~ “Foolish and unwise counsel”
When your team gives bad counsel it is a reflection of you.
~ "Foolish and unwise business practices"
The church isn’t the leader’s good deal super center.
~ “Mishandling the church funds”
Put the offering down and step away from the gun.
~ “Not taking care of your own home well”
Priorities: God, Spouse, Children, Body (nutrition, exercise, stress),
~ “Unaccountable to anyone”
Find accountability, not just outside the church, but inside the church.
~ “Not working as a team”
Lose the hirelings and let the team lead.
~ “Unwilling to receive counsel from other leaders”
Isolation is the first step to elimination.
~ “Tendency to pick of every revelation”
Don’t be a freak bouncing off each extreme doctrine.
~ “Fear or Survival mentality”
Avoid living like it is all going to fall apart in the very near future.
~ “Closed mindedness”
Not seeing other opportunities and influences
~ “Pride”
Comes before the fall.
~ “Insecurity”
Insecurity has cost me more in ministry than anything else.
~ “Frustrated”
Get over it, there will not be enough today to do what God wants tomorrow.
~ “Building on methods not principles”
Methodology changes, Theology stays the same.
~ “Focusing on Emphasis”
Promote aspects of the church; don't make gods out of them.
~ “Building on Sensational”
Sensational sells media, it doesn’t stabilize people.
~ “Confusing the difference between church truth and Kingdom truth”
Some things are bigger issues than others. Know the difference
~ “Not fully developing communication skills”
Work on the menu of what you feed people.
~ “More interested in theology than people”
Doesn’t matter what you know if you don’t really care.
~ “Not really called”
Be honest and make the changes necessary.
~ “Immoral Involvements”
It is really about the fear of God. Without it failure its imminent.
WOW! This is the list to save the lives of volunteers throughout the body of Christ.
