Woods Bros JTG Racing Tour
We had the best tour of a race shop today! Most of the race team shops are closed today because it is an off weekend for many of them, but Ron Pegram, the COO of Woods Bros JTG Racing, arranged a tour for Roger and I with the shop closed.
We were able to walk through the shop and get up close and personal with two Craftsman Trucks, 2 Busch cars and 1 single Nextel cup car. Ken Schraeder's #21 cup car was there from California, last weeks race; Vegas, next weeks race; and Bristol, the car of tomorrow test from earlier this week. It was really cool to see the cars up close and the fab shop, paint booth, suspension room, support stuff, photo shoot area, workout area and so much more! There were 35 Cup/Busch cars and 18 Craftsman Trucks.
I was blown away by the caliber of the operation these teams put forth. The 130,000 SF shop was clean, organized and the 200 employees do their job. Jeff Chitam (forgive spelling Jeff) who is the publicist for Ken Schraeder showed us around and told us stories about working for Rousch Racing and Matt Kenseth when he won the Nextel Championship in 2003. Jeff overflowed with passion for racing and his job. He seriously works endlessly to make certain his team is of the highest caliber.
Later today we meet with COO Ron Pegram at a restaurant to talk about some missions work in Africa. Looking forward to talking with him.
