C3 Final Session

Ed Young, Dallas, Tx

Message title: “Things I learned from my Dad”

Personal Evangelism:
It’s the bottom of the ninth and there are two outs for many people in our communities. Church and evangelism is comfortably uncomfortable. A Christians we have to be personally reaching people for Jesus Christ.

Crucial Role of Leadership:
Take people where they need to go, not where they want to go. Make certain the church is taking people to a destination. The best leader are leaders we ah veto go out and find.

How to do the hard things first:
Start with the most difficult elements first. Start daily with the things which are the hardest to discipline: workout, daily prayer, reading the word, eating right.

Have zero partiality:
Treat people the same. No matter who they are, if they are business executives, blue collar workers, stay at home moms or whatever; treat people the same.

The Power of Study:
80% of the game is study. So goes the weekend, so goes the church.

The Power of the Absence:
Ministry is set up for burnout. 17,000 pastors a year a getting out of ministry to do something else. Take breaks from the hectic schedule that is ministry and life. Take vacation time; spend time away to get replenished. Our leadership is measured, not when we are there, but when we are not there. The art of a true vacation is lost. A true vacation is not with the family; that’s a family outing. A true vacation is not with relatives; that’s an obligation vacation. A true vacation is a vacation with you and your spouse.

Hospitality Happens:
Practice hospitality, open up your home, the apartment and the town house. Let people dine, stay, live and hang at your home. Leave the crazy people for the church, but open your home to those who God sends your way and that you love.

De-kook your Church:
Constantly have to monitor the kookiness in your church and make certain what is promoted is protected. Be who you are, who God made you, do not allow perceived weirdness to go undefined.

Promote, Promote, Promote:
Promote the gospels, promote the church, promote the vision. Does not matter who we are we have to promote. Promote baptism, communion, salvation, discipleship and everything.

Vision—seeing the unseen:
Mission drift gets us fired. Keep mission drift out of the culture, the DNA and every effort.

Have a funeral in your mind for negative people:
Not a lot of elaboration here, we already give too much time to negative people in our minds.

Generosity:
Give “bone chilling” gifts to your church. If the man of God doesn’t give generously to the church he can’t expect his church to give.

Dad taught Ed how to marry above him:
Teach our young men to marry up!

Then Ed Young's dad and mom came on stage for an interview.
