Here are some hints to get started.
1) Decide why you are fasting? personal growth, spititual insight, church vision, or etc. It can be multiple areas. Let the Holy Spirit guide you and write the reasons for the fast in a journal so you can reference it in times of prayer.
2) Make your commitment. This step is the toughest when it comes to fasting. Really dig your teeth in and allow laser like focus to persuade you. Decide that you will experience God in greater depths as you choose to deprive yourself physically, you will awaken spiritually.
3) Prepare yourself. Get ready to pray during meal times and as you feel deprived. Also participate in church prayer times. Realize the fast will impact your decision making, it may even adjust your schedule. If you have the liberty, take a day off and "go to the mountain top to pray" or special place to pray. Take your bible and a journal. Seek God, pray and write.
4) Prepare physically, get the foods and/or juices that you will eat ready. Allow for some extra rest during the fast, you'll have less carbs and protien so you'll need a little more sleep.
5) Expect God to GO BIG. For me, I am fasting for some huge things in my life. You know those things you long for but elude you year after year? Those are what I am personally fasting for!!!
