SEVEN THINGS I LOVE
Random thoughts, By Jeff Knight
1. I love what I do. I really do. I see my life in three primary roles.
a) Husband. I get to be married to the most amazing woman in the world, in my opinion. When I saw Melinda on that April day in 1990 I just knew she was the only one for me. I'm not the perfect husband, far from it, but I love being her husband. I love it that after 17 years of marriage she still thinks I'm hot, even though we haven't seen the six pack since they invented the 2 liter version.
b) Dadadadada. After 11 years of trying to have our own children God brought us a beautiful baby girl. When I look at her I see her mom. I see the reflection of joy, promise, hope and security. These same traits God used when he adopted me, and I think it not surprising to wake her up in the morning only to find her smiling with the innocence of life. Man, I love being a dad.
c) Pastor. I love being a pastor. I love it that God counted me worthy and called me into the ministry. Wow, who would have thought? Not me, that's for certain, but His grace came upon my life when I needed it most, and I haven't lived without it since. I love leading our church, through the good and the not so. I love strategies to make the complicated simple, and the normal creative. I love it all. I love being a pastor.
2. I love who I do what I do with. The three peeps that I do what I do with.
a) Melinda. She could never understand or comprehend what she means to me. It is more numerous than all the grains of sand on the seashores of this planet and the next. Her worth, value, love and trust is so above measure in my heart. I can't believe I get to be her husband on a daily basis.
b) Seven Addison. "My perfect first," Are you kidding me? I didn't know it was this good, and it gets better all the time. Being a dad has absolutely enhanced every region of my complicated life. From my personality to my preferences I am altered, blessed, hopeful, proud, and just in awe of what she can do to my heart. I've lived some amazing life, but nothing, I mean nothing, compares to that smile. I love that girl!
c) My Church. I love my church because it is everything I believe it can become. It's not always perfect, never will be complete, but it is MORE THAN ENOUGH because Jesus is there. I love the team Jesus has picked to lead with me. I love the people the Lord has drawn to call her home. I love the rough edged approach. I love the bigness of the vision, the spirit of the people, the emphasis on the arts and technology to communicate the message. I love the laughter, the prayer meetings, the music, and the endless opportunities for life change! I love it that people call it 'their church" because I call it "my church," and even if I wasn't the pastor I'd go there, because it is just flat out FUN.
