ENGAGE EVERYTHING YOU BELIEVE IN (1/4)

Each year, with just a couple short months until race season starts, I always take the time to consider "why" I want to race NASCAR. These thoughts are important because to succeed in anything I have to be fully committed. I often renew my commitment based on the "why." More often than not the answer is much more complex than a simple, "because I like it" or "it's fun" or "it's my hobby." While all those things are true, they are not all-encompassing-truth. There is something much more important that engages me.

Racing, for Jeff Knight, impacts my mission in life! Straight up. It's NOT a hobby for me. Don't get me wrong, I get great excitement from driving a race car, but where someone may do it primarily for the fun of it, I do not. I do it because it fits my calling first and foremost; Racing engages everything I believe in.

"Like life, racing requires people. I love working with and alongside people."
You win with people, and my life is composed of teams. My wife and I are a team, I have a team at the church who oversees the ministry, I have a team who creates, a team who implements. There are so many people who help me do what I do, and I love them all. What we do together is far greater than what we can do alone.

Likewise, I have a team of people to build, adjust, fix and maintain our race program. Most of these guys I have personally lead to Christ and help them in their daily walk with God as husbands, fathers and men. There's ladies on our team also, but I'm not quite as good at helping them be wives, so I defer that to my wife. I would say there are a dozen or so households directly impacted by me racing who I am personally helping reach their life goals. Not many pastors get a chance to do what I do every week of every year. I really value the team atmosphere. If you lead a Reach Team at The Rock Church, yes, this is my Reach Team.

Tune back in tomorrow for part 2...
