THE FIRST SATURDAY

The first Saturday after race season is the weirdest! Today I was walking through Lowe's--buying a microwave--when I run into some friends from church. They ask, "Is it weird on Saturday without racing?"

IT IS! We've been in race mode since the 3rd weekend of March. I've had 4 weekends off since then, so yes, today is a bit strange.

What does a driver do on the first Saturday without a race? Let's recap.

  • Right now I am watching Seven. When a dad watches his daughter it's not babysitting it's parenting. Let's see we've fed, 2 times with 2 to go; we've bathe, had a blown out diaper; we've napped, not long enough for dad to clean the shop; and we are playing now.
  • I woke up early and watched Dances with Wolves on one of the movie channels. Love that movie. The Sioux are my people. Most do not know that I have huge Native American Heritage. My great great grandma was 7 years old in the battle of Little Big Horn.
  • Started cleaning the shop. I am making room for the winter race projects where the team strips the cars down to the frame and have them powder coated and check everything for perfection.
  • Watched college football while cleaning the shop. I've not seen a game.
  • Ate lunch at lunch time, weird. PF Changs left overs for lunch.
  • Watched NASCAR Craftsman Truck race while cleaning the shop. You'd be surprised what you can pick up on while watching the race. The coverage is excellent.
  • Prepare the simulator. Yes, I have a race car simulator with race seat, pedals, steering wheel. It's powered by a serious cpu that was built just for race simulation. I intend to get better in the off season this year.
  • Did I mention thinking about Sunday! I can't wait for church tomorrow. I have one of the most amazing announcements to make in church tomorrow. Probably one of the coolest things that has ever happened to our church.
Not to worry, the snow will be falling in the mountains soon for winter fun!
