Sunday will go down in history as one of the most amazing days of our lives. Our great effort to have a family has ended! After 11 years of believing for children, IVF, 2 incomplete adoptions—one of them devastating—and times of wondering if we were meant to have children, Seven Addison Knight came into our lives, her name means “A perfect first.”
We could not be more excited, and as we have told close friends they are shocked because we kept her a secret. We did not even tell our family until after she was born! Why? It was important to us that we not share leading up to the adoption because if it did not go through we felt it safer to not disappoint all those who love us, again. In reality, we were totally prayerful as we prepared for her the last 10 weeks. Riding the elevator to the nursery fears of what might happen would surface, but we just kept praying, “God, you’ve called us, and we desire to have children.”
Tuesday, it was recognized by the courts and we were released from the hospital. Driving home we couldn’t wait to introduce her to the staff. They met us at the door of the church, some with teary eyes, especially my 7-month pregnant assistant Staci--I was nervous she would give birth she was so excited! We came home a little later and started in. The room, left the same since last fall, was ready to receive life. We powered up the wipey-warmer, grabbed some diapers and started interpreting the signs: grunts, cries, smiles, and the rest! First night she slept 2 hours, fed; slept 5 hours, fed; and then slept 4 hours! We were like, “We are definitely blessed!” We have waited 11 years to be up all night and running on empty just to hear the cry of a baby in our house!
There is so much to this story, we are overwhelmed.
Thanks for loving us,
Jeff and Melinda Knight
