MFI 2008
This week is our annual regional retreat. Always great to see good friends and hang out with ministry partners. On the first night Pastor Dick Iverson shared a solid word on Leadership Principles from Proverbs. If your life is composed of leadership in anyway you can benefit from these notes.
Pastor Dick Iverson
Leadership from Proverbs
Prov 14:28-The mark of a good leader is loyal followers; leadership is nothing without a following.
2. Seek Wise Counsel
Prov 15:22- Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed.
3. Motivate, don’t manipulate
Prov 16:10- A good leader motivates, doesn't mislead, doesn't exploit.
4. NO tolerance of wrongdoing by other or self.
Prov 16:12- Good leaders abhor wrongdoing of all kinds; sound leadership has a moral foundation.
5. Integrity
Prov 16:13- Good leaders cultivate honest speech; they love advisors who tell them the truth.
6. Emotionally in control
Prov 16:14-15-An intemperate leader wreaks havoc in lives; you're smart to stay clear of someone like that. Good-tempered leaders invigorate lives; they're like spring rain and sunshine.
7. Strive for Excellence
Prov 20:8- Leaders who know their business and care keep a sharp eye out for the shoddy and cheap.
8. Deal with Troublemakers
Prov 20:26- After careful scrutiny, a wise leader makes a clean sweep of rebels and dolts.
9. Balance Truth with Love
Prov 20:28- Love and truth form a good leader; sound leadership is founded on loving integrity.
10. Submits to God
Prov 21:1- Good leadership is a channel of water controlled by God; he directs it to whatever ends he chooses.
11. Always Learning
Prov 25:3- Like the horizons for breadth and the ocean for depth, the understanding of a good leader is broad and deep.
Prov 28:2- When the country is in chaos, everybody has a plan to fix it — But it takes a leader of real understanding to straighten things out.
13. Don’t react; ACT!
Prov 29:12- When a leader listens to malicious gossip, all the workers get infected with evil.
