SUNDAY NIGHT REFLECTIONS
Sunday night reflections on Tuesday. Ha, it was a busy weekend!
To say that I was a little sleepy on Sunday afternoon would be an understatement. Melinda and I had lunch together with some friends and I about fell asleep in the carne asada.
I'll sum up the weekend with two words, "WIDE OPEN!" That is english for faster than a speeding bullet.
Saturday was the Wired X 150 for the Super stock class at Evergreen Speedway. I had never been 150 laps before. Sadly, I would end up only going 88 laps before getting turned around in turn 1. One of my fellow racers put his right front fender on my left rear wheel while entering turn one. It usually doesn't take much at that speed and cornering force to get a car backwards, so around I went. While traveling backward expecting to hit the wall I was hit in the nose before coming to a stop. To my surprise no wall contact, but the front suspension was bent and the clutch was fried. I had to be pushed back into the pits and the day was over. Although I was disappointed I had a great time in this race. It was the first time my car was not real "tight" on the 5/8's and when the spin happened I think I was in 7th battling with Geoff Bodine (yes, the NASCAR Cup Driver). He and I had a good battle going on for a while, it was great to race against a legend. I laid my head on the pillow at 1:15am Sunday Morning...
Sunday morning I was back in the pulpit after a 5 week rest. I spoke on the role of women in the church. I am super passionate about this topic because my mom was a very anointed woman of God who was persecuted heavily for her gifting. God is a God of order, and I do believe, a woman under the headship and authority of the man of God in her life, has the responsibility, as any man, to her callings, mandates, convictions and purposes of God. For me this includes teaching and preaching. Jesus looked at a Roman Centurion and said, "I have not seen faith like this in all of Jerusalem." What did Jesus see? He saw, "Great Faith." Why? Because this man was under authority; thus, he had authority. I wholeheartedly have studied this topic since the age of 14, talked with pastors both for and against women preachers, researched, prayed, studied scripture, looked in the Greek, tried to gain an understanding of Corinth and Ephesus and I cannot definitively conclude that Paul intended to keep women silent in the church as a Universal principle to be handed down by church leaders for 2 millenniums. I am convinced, headship is the universal principle Paul was instructing these churches on when he instructed the women to "be silent" and we would do good to gain a greater understanding of headship in the local church. "God is the head of Christ, as Christ the church and man is the head woman." 1 Cor 11:3
Sunday night we had a Regional Reach Team meeting at the church. This was a time of prayer and discussions of time-lines as we get ready to launch our Regional ministries in October.
Our Fantasy Football draft is August 19th! Can't wait for football season. Go Seahawks!
Also, some of the guys I go hunting with are starting to plan our weekend warrior expedition into the ________. I could tell ya where we go, but then I would be disowned by my brothers. All hunters keep the good spots a secret!
Our 3-5th Graders are at camp this week! I am so excited for them and praying daily for good weather!
