WHY OUR CHURCH NEEDS TO OWN OUR BUILDING?

Two-years ago The Rock Church started out on a capital campaign to raise money to complete some very powerful projects. Nearing the two-year anniversary, with one-year to go in the campaign, there is much to get excited about. First, GRID 29:11 launched over a year ago and young people are loving the GRID. T3 paid for the construction of GRID 2911 and continues to pay for the on-going expenses of that facility and both our teens and children are benefiting from the project giving of T3. Second, each month we are setting aside a portion to execute the purchase and sale agreement for our building on May 1st, 2008.

As the countdown to completion of T3 nears the 365-day mark I asked myself a question:

Why does our church need to own our building? Is there a right time for a church to buy a church building? Here are some of my observations.

  • Yes, when we see evidence that God is at work within our church.
  • Yes, when our people are maturing in faith and togetherness and we feel more like a congregation than ever before.
  • Yes, when we have vision to evangelize and disciple our community.
  • Yes, when we have the inner confidence that it is God's will for us to own.
  • Yes, when our motivation is to honor Christ and to establish His Kingdom rather than for reasons of self-aggrandizement.
  • Yes, when there are the financial resources to build without affecting our ongoing ministry.
We are preparing now for May 1st, 2008. I promise, we will not organize a bazaar or bring in a circus and sell tickets to buy our building. We will not sell raffle tickets or shave my head for a certain donation--buying church buildings is no gimmick!

We will own our building through the sacrificial giving of those who are connected to our church. We will lead people to find God's will for their lives in relationship to God's will for this; His church. God's will for The Rock Church is to buy our building; consequently, God has a will for each household as it relates to His will for our congregation. It is important for every person to find the Lord's will for his/her life as it relates to the Lord's will for our corporate congregation. When we know God's will we can participate in Touching Tomorrow Together with JOY!
