CREATIVE WRITING AND THE CHURCH
I remember Creative Writing in school? The teacher would set aside time and have each student tell a story. The time was intended to allow you and I to learn to write our thoughts, ideas, and tell stories. I would write about my dog, a make believe city, and even my favorite summer vacation spot.
I have started writing creatively again. I think somewhere between mission statements, core values, manuals, and marketing strategies I lost the essence of what it meant to dream while writing.
The church is one giant dream of God. Studying the OT right now I am again recognizing that God's Word was creatively recorded by men through the leading of the Holy Spirit. God spoke it, "thus saith the Lord", then men creatively wrote it down on pottery, tablets, rock walls and whatever they could get to permanence. It took the 500 years to compile all the creative writing that is Psalms.
God's dream is the local church; He spoke it into existence. TRC is God's spoken word, but we must Creatively Write. Hab 2:2, "Write the vision, make it plain on tablets, that he who reads it may run with it."
I have been Writing Creatively all my life. Only now am I recognizing how writing creatively is a God thing.
